The New York Times made spectacle of their endorsement process this election cycle, producing an episode of "The Weekly" that featured their conversations with each candidate. In the end, they ended up with a dual endorsement of progressive Mass. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and more moderate Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
Meanwhile, The Daily Hampshire Gazette, the local paper of Northampton, Mass., endorsed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who's become the front-runner without any major newspaper endorsements at all.
"This whole newspaper endorsement thing has become so ridiculous," said WGBH Beat The Press host Emily Rooney on Boston Public Radio on Friday.
Outside of presidential politics, Rooney ceded that the more obscure the race, the more useful the endorsement for voters.
"I think endorsements are helpful down-ballot," she said.
The Boston Globe, meanwhile, endorsed Warren after New Hampshire voters cast their ballots, but in time for Super Tuesday. What impact will that have for the Massachusetts senator? We'll just have to wait and find out.
