The Senate Ethics Committee has hired a team of lawyers, some of whom have previously convicted mobsters as well as former Speaker of the State House of Representatives Sal DiMasi, to investigate former Senate President Stan Rosenberg.
The Committee pegged lawyers from global firm Hogan Lovells to investigate whether Rosenberg was influenced by his husband Bryon Hefner to steer official Senate business to favor men that Hefner allegedly pursued sexually. The Ethics Committee launched an investigation after four men anonymously accused Hefner of sexual harassment and claimed Hefner bragged about his ability to influence his husband's decision making.
WGBH's Legal Analyst Daniel Mewed places these developments in context for Morning Edition as the FBI is reportedly launching their own investigation into Rosenberg. Medwed also comments on a recording of a Senate Judicial Committee hearing that went viral after one of President Trump's nominees for a federal judgeship, Matthew Petersen, proved he was particularly unqualified for the position before withdrawing his application.
