Every single day, food is grown, cooked, sold, bought, and in large part—thrown away. Food waste from grocery stores, produce wholesalers, farms and farmers markets gets tossed out, with no better place to go. So every day, four drivers from Lovin’ Spoonfuls, a Boston-based non-profit organization, set out on a rescue mission: Take that would-be wasted food and deliver it to homeless shelters, soup kitchens and social assistance agencies. Since 2010, Lovin’ Spoonfuls has distributed more than 3,500,000 pounds of fresh food, feeding over 500,000 people. Founder and Executive Director Ashley Stanley and culinary panel board member Christopher Myers (local restaurateur and co-owner of Myers & Chang) joined Jim Braude and guest host Andrea Cabral on Boston Public Radio for this week’s News Quiz— with a special ‘Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ bonus round.
