Boston (May 23, 2022) - North Quincy High School has earned the title of High School Quiz Show® State Champion after an impressive run on Boston public media producer GBH’s academic quiz show’s 13th season. In an exhilarating championship showdown, North Quincy took on Andover High School in the season finale, which aired on May 21, 2022. North Quincy defeated Andover with a final score of 1120 to 980.

North Quincy High School’s win marks their sixth appearance on High School Quiz Show. They won the State Champion title in season four. The team demonstrated their academic prowess throughout the season, besting 16 other Massachusetts high school teams. Hosted by Billy Costa, High School Quiz Show places teams of four in a head-to-head tournament with fast-paced questions in categories such as literature, math, history, current events and science.

“Congratulations to the North Quincy team on their hard-earned victory on High School Quiz Show,” said Jon Abbott, President and CEO of GBH. “Over the course of more than a decade, the Quiz Show mission of elevating and celebrating high school scholarship has positively featured academic effort. These students are the stars of the show, demonstrating week after week an astounding depth and breadth of knowledge.”

Coached by Danielle Fernandez, Mera Kriz and Peggy Farren, teammates John Thomas, Kaitlyn, Dominique and Peter led the North Quincy team to victory. Sophie and Nicholas supported the team as alternates. (Contact Lauren Herbert to request surnames.)

Over the course of the season, teams were presented with special celebrity questions from well-known public figures such as Massachusetts Senators Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey, chef Marcus Samuelsson and Broadway actress Barrett Wilbert Weed.

For a second year, High School Quiz Show used an innovative hybrid production model with students competing remotely and Costa hosting from GBH’s studios in Brighton, MA.

In addition to bragging rights, North Quincy High School took home a $1,000 check, a 2022 commemorative trophy, gold medals for each student and coach, and a banner to be displayed at the school.
