In response to the coronavirus, officials across the region have essentially canceled April, and May is still in jeopardy. With residents shut in at home, public spaces remain eerily quiet and businesses shuttered. The resulting calm masks a parallel reality as those on the front lines are scrambling to prepare for a surge of infections with no clear ending.
