Foundation Highlights

  • Boston fans have a special opportunity to connect with Molly of Denali at the Boston Public Library on Sunday, October 6 from 2-4pm. A-maze-ing Snow, a story book developed by HarperCollins and WGBH, and based on an episode of the same name, will be distributed.
  • A polluted beach, a horrifying creature and a group of kids who didn’t listen to a warning. Those creepy ingredients all come together in an episode from WGBH’s newest podcast The Creeping Hour, a horror anthology.
  • Children across the nation are heading back to school. But many students—including students of color, English Learners, and students coming from low-income households—face systemic barriers to high-quality educational opportunities, resulting in significant academic achievement gaps.
  • You know something big is happening at WGBH when you find a space station in its world class recording studio. The futuristic space station, built from scratch, will host an immersive interactive livestreaming escape game on Sept. 9. The adventure will be broadcast live via Twitch—a video platform where millions of viewers interact daily and learn from each other.
  • The September You & Julia Challenge was launched last week by Andy Husbands, Pitmaster at The Smoke Shop Barbecue. We talked with Husbands about the secret to making delicious bread, why he loves barbecue, and Julia Child’s legacy.
  • How do you protect against “fake news”? How do you avoid slander? How much support does WGBH get from the federal government? Does the government try to influence how you cover the news? These were some of the questions on the minds of military leaders from 55 countries who visited WGBH as part of a year-long leadership program at the Naval Command College in Rhode Island.
  • Once a child understands the concept of ramps — inclined planes where all sorts of things can slide and roll — suddenly they find and create them everywhere. Just ask Mbaresa, a recent immigrant from Albania, who is learning about ramps, shadows and weather with her young daughter Daniela at a community-based organization in Roslindale. Play and Learn Science, a hands-on science exploration class for young children and their parents delivered by WGBH Education, has opened up science and language for her daughter with books, apps and play.
  • Media, in all of its forms, has immense power to shape ideas. Television, films and digital media can influence how we see others, and how we see ourselves. Accurate, authentic representation can break down barriers, open us to new ideas, create powerful role models, and even be a source of inspiration.
  • Brian McCreath has entered the part of the year known as his “split life.” The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has opened its summer season at Tanglewood with CRB’s McCreath as producer.
  • "Molly of Denali" Creative Producer Princess Daazhraii Johnson and Executive Producer and Co-Creator Dorothea Gillim provide behind-the-scenes insight on the creation of the new WGBH animated series based in the fictional Alaskan village of Qyah.
