In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Negro Baseball League, we pulled this episode — Basic Black: Baseball — out of the archives. The show, which originally aired on November 9, 2000, pays tribute to Black American baseball players, spotlighting athletes from around New England. The program features an exhibit honoring members of the Negro Baseball League of the early 1900s, who broke new ground for future generations of Black sports figures. Hear from Charlie Lloyd, a former player with the Highland Colored Giants, and Mamie "Peanut" Johnson, one of three women, and the first female pitcher, to play in the Negro Leagues.

GBH Forum Network, The Boston Red Sox Foundation, and the Museum of African American History recently presented "The Negro Leagues: 100 Years Later—The Future of Baseball and Race." Red Sox first baseman Mo Vaughn joined sports journalist Howard Bryant, Red Sox Vice President/Club Counsel Elaine Steward and the Negro Leagues Museum head Curator Dr. Raymond Doswell to talk about where we are 100 years after the founding of the segregated Negro Leagues. Watch the full conversation here.

Watch Basic Black Fridays at 7:30pm on GBH 2, wgbh.org and Facebook.
