Massachusetts and Rhode Island won’t share their toys.

Hasbro, the company that manufactures board games and toys, has said it will soon make a decision whether to keep its headquarters in Rhode Island, and Massachusetts officials have voiced interest in courting the company to hop across the state border.

On Wednesday, Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo told Boston Public Radio she doesn't think the company will build a new headquarters in Massachusetts.

"I feel they’re not seriously considering it. However, I know your governor has been calling them, and it’s the right thing to do, to consider all options," Raimondo said.

The company, headquartered in Pawtucket and founded in Rhode Island, has said it is eyeing a new location to build its future headquarters, and expects to make a decision by mid-2019.

Raimondo said she understands the company's desire to modernize — it is a publicly traded entity with operations across the nation and in 40 countries worldwide. But she believes its headquarters belong in Rhode Island.

"I would say, 'Hey Charlie, lay off, back off, get out of my backyard,'" Raimondo said. "I may have said something to him. But he's in the ring for Massachusetts and I'm in the ring for Rhode Island, so that is the way it is."

Raimondo's wide-ranging interview with Boston Public Radio also touched on her role as the chair of the Democratic Governors Association, her plans to expand free college tuition to Rhode Island students, her thoughts on the packed field of Democratic candidates for president, and a potential high speed rail from Providence to Boston.
