Heading into the new year, former President Donald Trump faces a number of ongoing legal issues plus potential new charges stemming from the January 6th insurrection and his alleged attempts to change the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

With legal issues piling up more each day, what will 2023 bring for Trump?

Retired Federal Judge Nancy Gertner and Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Laurence Tribe shared their predictions on Greater Boston.

"I think there will be two or maybe three separate criminal indictments hanging over him, whether any of them will have gone to trial, I don't know. But it's going to be answering time for Donald Trump," Tribe said.

Gertner agreed, and said that Trump will likely be mid-litigation on a number of criminal charges by December 2023. "There's no question that Trump's principal response to that will be delay as we've seen with everything."

Much of Trump's fate will likely land in the hands of the Supreme Court, which is stacked with Republican judges who have shown little regard for legal precedents, and have lost much of the public's trust, according to Tribe.

"That's really the gravest danger, that our system of government and the rule of law will really not have a lawyer-in-chief," Tribe said.
