After images circulated of border patrol agents tear gassing migrants at the southern border, President Trump responded to criticism with a tweet promising to “close the Border [sic] permanently if need be.” And just last week, when a federal judge in California blocked the president's plan to deny asylum protections for some who entered the country illegally, Trump responded by calling him an “Obama judge.” The statement was enough to earn a rebuke from Chief Justice John Roberts.
Meanwhile, another divide has been widening among Democrats, between older leadership and the new generation joining congress.
