A 'Red Mirage': What If Trump Claims A False, Early Victory?

Early voter turnout in the 2020 presidential election has already hit more than 50% of the total vote count from 2016, with six days to go before Election Day. Experts are cautioning that the final results may not be known by the end of Nov. 3, as local officials across the country will have to process an unprecedented number of early ballots — which some states are not even allowed to open until next Tuesday. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump and his allies continue to cast false doubts upon the validity of mail-in ballots and other parts of the election process, continuing the president’s long history of saying he will not readily accept the results or commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses. The situation has some political observers worried about the possibility of a ‘red mirage,’ in which Trump would falsely claim victory before all the votes were counted, and then activate the courts and his swing-state political allies to help his declaration come true.
