A group of anti-war demonstrators were arrested Monday after they climbed onto the roof of Raytheon’s Cambridge facility to protest the military defense contractors “profit[ing] from death” in Ukraine, Yemen and Palestine.

Five members of the activist group Resist and Abolish the Military Industrial Complex (RAM INC) occupied the roof to draw attention to their solidarity and anti-war movement as employees arrived for work. Raytheon Technologies is the second-largest defense contractor in the United States and is headquartered in Waltham, Mass.

“We’re calling out Raytheon because they profit in all those conflicts,” said a RAM INC spokesperson, who gave the name Raven. “And in all those places missiles have been dropped on civilians,” Raven said, “so, we wanted to disrupt that.”

The protestors climbed the roof around 8:15 a.m., according to Cambridge Police and Fire, and another 20-30 individuals gathered outside the Raytheon building on Moulton Street.

For nearly four hours, police officers attempted to communicate and escort protesters off the roof, according to a news release issued by Cambridge Police Communications Director Jeremy Warnick.

“We are out here demanding an end to all wars and an end to all empires,” Raven said. The group shared photos of the demonstration on its Twitter account.

The five defendants were charged with two felonies for breaking and entering and vandalizing property, as well as trespassing, a misdemeanor.

A Raytheon spokesperson said the company has no comment on the protest.

“Our campaign against weapons manufacturing may be over [for today],” RAM INC spokesperson Raven said, “but our campaign against weapons manufacturers, not just Raytheon, will continue.”
