Established in 2013, the Latino Equity Fund is taking on inequality that impacts Latino residents of Massachusetts, ranging from wealth inequities to the disproportionate toll of COVID-19 and beyond. Jim Braude was joined by Juan Lopera of Beth Isreal Lahey Health and a co-chair of the fund’s advisory committee, and Dr. Joseph Betancourt of Massachusetts General Hospital, who is a new member of the committee. Lopera said COVID-19 was a “rude awakening, much of it stemming from systemic issues that have plagued our community for so long.”
