The Hull School Committee told WGBH News Tuesday that it plans to keep the public posted on developments as an investigation of misconduct allegations against Hull Public Schools Superintendent Michael Devine, on the eve of a school committee meeting to discuss the matter.
"Devine's status as superintendent will be the subject of review during the meeting," according to a letter School Committee Chair David Twombly sent to the public Monday. "The leave of absence and contractually-obligated school committee meeting comes amidst allegations of recent personal misconduct by Devine brought forward to the school committee."
When asked about the nature of the allegations, committee Vice Chair Lucas Patenaude declined to elaborate but said the meeting — to be held in executive session — was scheduled to "gather all the facts, look at what's actually happening and see what kind of decision needs to be made.
When asked further, Patenaude continued to refuse comment.
“We've made our statement," he said. "A lot of this is being done in executive session by the very nature of it being a personal matter, and a matter of personnel, and a lot of it can't be discussed yet.”
The Hull School District has about 900 students. Devine was hired as Superintendent of the approximately 900 student district in 2017 after serving as Principal of Hull High School for 8 years.
Patenaude said he has known Devine since 2018, when he was elected to the school committee.
He added that Devine's evaluations as Superintendent are generally good and are available for public review at the website of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Lillian M. Jacobs Elementary School.
