This year marks the 400th anniversary of the first African slaves landing in Virginia. Rupa Shenoy, a reporter for PRI’s The World, traveled to Ghana to explore the role that Africans played in capturing and selling other Africans during the slave trade. Shenoy joined Boston Public Radio Wednesday to talk about her new series based on her time in Ghana called, "400 years: Slavery’s unresolved history."
Shenoy was struck by how many people living in Ghana were still oblivious to the role their country played in the slave trade.
“Ghana still in many places does not teach this history," Shenoy said " A lot of people are kind of ignorant about it. This was a problem," she said.
