This week, Jared reviews “The Bauhaus and Harvard” at Harvard Art Museums and gives us his take on the touring production of “School of Rock – The Musical.”

The Harvard Art Museums celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus, a German art school that combined disciplines including architecture, painting and sculpture into one utopian exchange of ideas. The show highlights the school’s lasting connection with Harvard, presenting nearly 200 works drawn almost entirely from Harvard’s own collection of more than 32,000 Bauhaus-related objects. The exhibition features a wide range of photography, paintings, textiles, sculptures and student exercises, and features such prominent Bauhaus figures as Walter Gropius, Anni and Josef Albers, Herbert Bayer, Lyonel Feininger, and László Moholy-Nagy.
“The Bauhaus wasn't really a place, but it was really an idea,” says curator Laura Muir. “It went on to have these different afterlives in different places.”

A group of feisty kids at the Boston Opera House are sticking it to the man with “School of Rock – The Musical.” Based on the 2003 film of the same name, this musical tells the story of wannabe rock star Dewey Finn, a failed musician who cons his way into a substitute teaching job and transforms a class of straight-A prep school students into a rollicking rock’n’roll band. With a book by Julian Fellowes (“Downton Abbey”), “School of Rock” features music from the original movie as well as a new score by Tony and Grammy Award-winner Andrew Lloyd Webber.
“This show is all about heart,” says Jared. “A class act because of its young stars, who are exemplars of rousing resilience.”
