Drag culture is beginning to catwalk its way into the mainstream, with RuPaul's Drag Race is in its tenth season, Viceland's upcoming documentary series "My House" and Ryan Murphy’s buzzy new show “Pose” on FX receiving plenty of attention for its ground-breaking cast. Still, the competitive drag ball scene remains generally underground. This fun and fierce part of drag culture is the setting for Tarrell Alvin McCraney’s play, “Wig Out!” But the show isn't all about "serving face" and "throwing shade." "Wig Out!" is a complex narrative that centers around young, queer people of color who are defying the norms of identity, sexuality and gender, and finding a chosen family within the drag community.

Boston's Company One Theater is performing the play at the Oberon Theater in Cambridge, in collaboration with the American Repertory Theater from April 26 through May 13.
