This week, Jared reviews the touring production of "The Color Purple" and breaks down this season's must-see films.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice walker and the Tony and Grammy-winning Broadway musical, "The Color Purple" follows Celie (Adrianna Hicks) through four decades of her life in the early twentieth century. A moving tale of defiance against a culture of abuse, Jared says this inspiring classic is "more resonant and relevant than ever."

"Coco," in theaters now

"Coco" has become the highest grossing film in Mexico
Disney Pixar

The latest film from Disney and Pixar, "Coco" is the tale of an aspiring young musician growing up in a household where music is banned. Magically, he crosses over to the Land of the Dead on a quest to uncover his real family history. Set in the fictional Mexican village of Santa Cecilia, Pixar brings heart, humor, and an almost entirely Latino cast of voice actors to an epic packed with authentic cultural references to Mexico and Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead).

The Man Who Invented Christmas," in theaters now

It's the story behind the story. "The Man Who Invented Christmas" is the tale of how Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) arrived at his now classic Christmas fable, "A Christmas Carol." Reminding us of the true spirit of Christmas, this timely and expertly cast tale is perfect for the holiday season.

"Lady Bird," in theaters now

In her directorial debut, Greta Gerwig delivers a coming-of-age story in "Lady Bird." Saoirse Ronon stars as the titular character; a strong-willed senior in high school who clashes with her equally passionate mother played by Laurie Metcalf. Set in 2002 amidst a shifting economic landscape, "Lady Bird" takes an honest and exquisitely funny look at the frayed family dynamics that define us.

"Murder on the Orient Express," in theater's now

Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in an A-list reimagining of Agatha Christie's popular murder mystery. Set in 1934, a passenger train travelling from Istanbul is forced off the tracks during a snowstorm. When one if the passengers is found murdered, famed detective Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) must identify the killer. Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley and Josh Gad round out an all-star cast in this iconic and often imitated whodunnit.
