During his daily morning Mass last Thursday, the Pope warned his audience of devoted followers and fellow Catholics to be wary of living a “double life.”

“Scandal is saying one thing and doing another; it is a double life, a double life. A totally double life: ‘I am very Catholic, I always go to Mass, I belong to this association and that one; but my life is not Christian, I don’t pay my workers a just wage, I exploit people, I am dirty in my business, I launder money…’ A double life. And so many Christians are like this, and these people scandalize others,” the Pope said according to the Vatican transcripts.

Reverends Irene Monroe and Emmet Price joined Boston Public Radio Monday to discuss the Pope’s message.

“I give him thumbs up for this. He says you have to do more than talk the talk, you have to walk the walk. I so appreciate that,” said Monroe.

Throughout the Mass, the Pope continued to deride those who live “double lives” by saying they are Catholic, but not exhibiting the moral choices of a true Christian. And so many Christians are like this, and these people scandalize others,” said the Pope.

“I totally agree,” said Price about the Pope’s comments.
