In his latest proclamation, Pope Francis addressed a classic debate within the Catholic Church: The great, timeless and timely topic of Love and Marriage.

Amoris Laetitia (Latin, “the joy of love”) is nine-chapter post-Synodic apostolic exhortation covers a wide array of topics connected with the family, including divorce and same-sex unions, which it notes “may not simply be equated with marriage”— an aspect of the proclamation that has caught some controversy.

The question remains: Did this proclamation go too far for conservatives? Not far enough for progressives?
