The Great American Read: Making Off The Page Experiences Accessible

Who hasn’t read a book they wished would never end? Many beloved stories are celebrated away from their pages as movies, TV shows, on fan websites and, in the case of Alice In Wonderland, even as an amusement park ride.

Innovation Hub's Kara Miller sat down with Bryan Gould from NCAM and Renee Ruthel from Media Access Group to discuss how they are making these broader experiences of loving a book accessible to people who are blind/low vision or deaf/hard of hearing. Using Alice In Wonderland as a common thread, they discuss the methods and technologies (many invented here at WGBH) that make it possible for people with disabilities to participate in the shared experiences of loving a book once it’s finished.
