The Broadcast Editorial Department is responsible for evaluating, acquiring and scheduling the programming on WGBH's various analog and digital television channels, including the nationally-distributed World digital channel, NHPTV, and for inputting the schedule data that drives our operations system. The Broadcast Editorial staff works closely with colleagues in other departments who are responsible for the operational process of getting our schedules to air; promoting and marketing our programs on air, online and in print, and raising money through TV pledge. The department is the nerve center of our local TV service, working in concert with colleagues in radio and online to further the strategic goals of WGBH in serving audiences in the Boston market.
Working with and reporting to the Senior Director of Programming, the Director of Programming is responsible for developing and implementing the monthly broadcast schedules for WGBH-TV (Channel 2), WGBX-TV (Channel 44), NH Prime, NH Plus, WGBY/Springfield and any future broadcast streams. The Director of Programming is also responsible for program acquisition for local schedules, assists in preparing the annual acquisition budget and is the primary liaison with program syndicators and distributors. The Director of Programming also consults on on-air pledge scheduling efforts, informs monthly promotional priorities, performs audience and ratings analysis and represents WGBH at national and regional meetings. In addition, the Director of Programming serves on national advisory boards as invited and presents at station meetings when asked.
75% Serve as lead programmer for WGBH 2, WGBX 44, NH Prime, NH Plus, WGBY and any additional future broadcast streams:
5% Act as consultant for TV pledging in MA and NH
5% Analyze Nielsen ratings for MA and NH streams
5% Identify and acquire programs to supplement the core PBS program inventory
5%Determine monthly promotional priorities
5% Represent WGBH at local, regional and national conferences/meetings/events
Minimum of two years’ experience in public television programming preferred, including experience in schedule creation and editorial evaluation of content, knowledge of audience analysis tools and familiarity with ProTrack operations database. Proficiency in common software applications like Word, Excel and Outlook required.
Bachelor's degree required.
