Water is absolutely essential for life and we tend to take for granted that it is readily available, safe, clean and potable. Yet this is not the case in many areas of the world...or even this country. As August is Water Quality Month, let’s remember the commitment, effort and organization it takes to establish and maintain those conditions, and reflect on how lucky we are to benefit from such legislation as the Clean Water Act. In Boston, one of the triumphs of environmental engineering has been the clean-up of Boston Harbor and the building of the Deer Island Water Treatment Plant. A toast to that with a glass of fresh water!
