GO STRAIGHT TO THE ART
The Institute for Contemporary Art/Boston (ICA)
By WGBHArts

Jill Medvedow, Ellen Matilda Poss Director of the ICA, discusses the first time she was struck by art:

“The first time I recall being thunderstruck by a work of art was at the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, CT, where I grew up. It was by Marcel Duchamp and I loved that it was a verbal and a visual pun. The piece was Tu m' and it set me on the path I walk today.”

The Institute of Contemporary Art is Boston’s destination for exciting new visual art, dance, theater, music, film and more.  Perched dramatically over Boston Harbor, the ICA’s stunning glass building, designed by architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, offers breathtaking views of the ocean throughout the museum's galleries and public spaces.

This summer, catch the spectacular exhibition Josiah McElheny: Some Pictures of the Infinite (June 22 – October 14, 2012). A Boston-born artist, McElheny uses the ancient and labor intensive medium of glass to create objects of exceptional beauty—from luminous hanging starbursts to dazzling walls of mirrors. He draws on art history, mid-century modern design, and astronomy to encode his glassworks with information, turning these exquisite objects into repositories of meaning.

Other programs at the ICA this summer include the popular outdoor concert series Harborwalk Sounds, dance performances, waterfront DJ nights, chef demonstrations and more.
