To sip the aviation cocktail at home, follow this recipe:

AVIATION COCKTAIL

1 1/2 oz. Beefeater London Dry Gin

1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice

2 tsp. Luxardo Maraschino cherry liqueur

1/2 oz. Pages Creme de Violette

Directions: Shake ingredients very well with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail coupe glass.

Garnish: maraschino cherry

Fans of the Masterpiece blockbuster Downton Abbey flocked to WGBH Studios in their best 1920s costumes for an evening of fine food, discussion of the era and the Potted Palm music typical of the times.

The program for the evening offered a demonstration in popular dance from that era, a performance by the Ocean State Serenaders (click on "Listen" above), and a lesson in proper cocktail assembly, perfect for those nights when fans decide to spend an evening at home watching Season Three again on DVD.

WGBH Members and friends celebrated Valentine's Day at the station with a great wine and chocolate pairing. Romance was in the air, along with plenty of laughter at the costumes available at our photo booth.

Scenes from the Taste of WGBH Food & Wine Festival

More than 2,000 people visited the WGBH Studios in Brighton over three beautiful fall days in September to celebrate all the great food and drink our region has to offer. From the Friday night gala to the wine auction, to a weekend of seminars, cooking demonstrations, tastings, and shopping in a farmers market brought in just for the event, WGBH members, community friends, and a host of celebrity chefs mixed and mingled around their favorite topic: good food.

To help you recall some of the delicious flavors from the celebration, here are a few recipes from participating chefs for you to try at home.

In the Artisan Taste tent, visitors got to sample some of the best gourmet dishes offered around Boston, served right from the hands of the area's top chefs. Favorite vintners were on hand to pour the wine and give advice on pairings, best varieties, and how to identify your wine style.

As goes the tradition at WGBH, none of these amazing events could have happened without an army of dedicated staff and volunteers. Thanks to you all!

WGBH Fun Fest A Big Hit

BOSTON — On July 14 at the WGBH Brighton Studio, more that 3,000 parents and children came out for the annual WGBH FunFest. Each year the station offers a day of ice cream, music and a chance for families to visit our studios and meet favorite PBS characters.

Kids got hugs from Clifford the Big Red Dog, Arthur, Curious George, Quack, Ruff Ruffman, Wally and WordGirl. There was plenty of music to sing and dance with, thanks to Mr. Steve, Flooky and the Beans, Toe Jam Puppet Band, the Harney Academy of Irish Step Dancers and many more.

Del McCoury Brings Bluegrass Back to Preservation Hall

McCoury got his start playing guitar and singing in Bill Monroe’s famed Bluegrass Boys in 1963. “I found out he liked jazz. He listened to jazz and was influenced by jazz,” McCoury says of Monroe, the father of bluegrass. “I grew to learn how all music is related.”

Del McCoury and Preservation Hall Jazz Band will get together Friday night in Copley Square and then again after midnight in the Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel’s Copley Club.

It's All About Balance with Flooky and The Beans

Bonaparte Dazzles and it's MAGIC!

Paying It Forward with Dan Zanes and Friends

Dan Zanes, former lead singer of the ‘80s band The Del Fuegos and Grammy Award-winning childrens performance artist, is also an advocate for creative collaboration. He focuses on the good that happens when everybody is brought together to connect.

Dan Zanes and Friends will be performing with the South Sudanese group Dieer Dee Jieng and African Gospel Artists at 1:00 pm on Saturday.

Sharon Shannon Brings Cool Celtic Accordion to Boston

Suzanne Vega Not Alone in Celebrating Solitude

Hear some of the classics from Solitude Standing, from “Luka” and “Tom’s Diner” to “Gypsy,” and “Calypso.” Vega's performance in Copley Square is the first of three stops scheduled as special Solitude celebrations, continuing at the City Winery in New York City and the Barbican in London.

Vega is scheduled to perform on the Summer Arts Weekend main stage at 7:30 P.M. Saturday and then in the Fairmont Copley’s Copley Club at 12:45 A.M.

Soul Rebels Launch Brass Attack

A Classical Sunday in Copley Square

BOSTON — The April Jazz in Performance at WGBH's Fraser Studio presented Italian saxophonist Marco Pignataro. Now a Boston local, as Managing Director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, Pignataro greeted members of the WGBH Jazz Club and guests during an exlusive performance with band members Somer O'Brien, Nando Michelin, Ehud Ettun and Paolo Orlandi.

Jazz in Performance airs on WGBH 89.7FM, hosted by Eric Jackson and produced by Steve Schwartz. Each month they bring audiences up close to jazz greats for an exclusive performance.

BOSTON — South African jazz pianist Stanley Sagov performed live in the WGBH Fraser studio with his band: Bob Gullotti (drums), Robert Douglas Gay (alto sax), Wannetta Jackson (vocalist), Stan Strickland (sax, flute and vocals), Mike Peipman (trumpet, flugelhorn, digeridoo), and John Lockwood (bass).
