Planned Giving — Bequests and Life Income Gifts

Bequests to WGBH

For many, the optimal way to make a planned gift to WGBH is through a bequest or other testamentary provision. A bequest intention qualifies you for membership in WGBH's Great Blue Hill Society.

Whether unrestricted or earmarked for a specific purpose, your bequest ensures that WGBH will have the resources to pursue today's promising ideas and tomorrow's opportunities.

You can include a bequest to WGBH for a specific dollar amount or a specific asset, such as a painting or real estate. You also can leave a bequest of the residue of your estate or a percentage of the residue of your estate. Suggested language for an unrestricted bequest is as follows:

"I give to the WGBH Educational Foundation of Boston, Massachusetts, the sum of $_______ (or ____ percent of my residuary estate) for its general use and purposes."

Establishing a named endowed fund in your estate plan
Bequests of retirement plan assets
Testamentary life income provisions

Establishing a named endowed fund in your estate plan

A bequest in the amount of $25,000 or more can be used to create a named endowed fund. The endowed fund may be used either to support the general purposes of WGBH or for a specific purpose. For more information on creating a named endowed fund through a bequest, please contact mary_moran@wgbh.org, or 800-220-7122.

Bequests of retirement plan assets

Retirement plans are an excellent asset to use for your charitable bequests. When you or your heirs receive distributions from a retirement plan, the distributions are subject to income taxes. However, by naming WGBH Educational Foundation as your secondary beneficiary of your retirement plan, the distributions to WGBH will not be subject to income taxes. If this is of interest to you, please contact mary_moran@wgbh.org, or 800-220-7122 for further information.

Testamentary life income provisions

If you wish to provide income to some of your heirs or loved ones, you can establish a gift annuity or charitable remainder trust through your estate plan. This will allow you to provide them with income for their lifetimes, with the remainder to WGBH. If this is of interest to you, please contact mary_moran@wgbh.org,, or 800-220-7122 for further information.
