Join us for an evening of celebration that promises to inspire, inform, and entertain the senses!  America’s Test Kitchen Christine Liu and AKA Bistro chef/co-owner Chris Chung join WGBH producer Val Wang for a discussion about, Planet Takeout, a new multimedia documentary on the role of Chinese restaurants in Boston neighborhoods; experience Divine Descent, the premiere of a classical Indian dance performance by acclaimed artist Mesma Belsare; enjoy traditional music by the Boston Chinese Drum and Dulcimer Ensemble. Plus, behind-the-scenes studio tours and a reception with traditional and Asian fusion cuisine courtesy of One World Cuisine.

Program highlights include:

  • Documentary preview with Val Wang and Q&A with chef Chris Chung and America’s Test Kitchen’s Christine Liu
    WGBH's newest producer in residence Val Wang discusses her multimedia documentary project Planet Takeout, one of ten nationwide initiatives of Localore from the Association of Independents in Radio — that turns local Chinese takeouts into spaces for storytelling, using innovative digital technologies to hear stories from people on both sides of the counter about food, community, and home. New England's rising star chef, Chris Chung and America’s Test Kitchen’s Christine Liu also join us for this discussion.
  • Classical Indian Dance Performance by acclaimed performance artist Mesma Belsare
    Mesma is an internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam (Indian classical) dancer and a visual artist based in Boston.  Her professional dancing career spans over two decades, The New York Times calls her "a tour de force".  Mesma will premiere her newest work Divine Descent; inspired by the story of the descent of the river Ganga (Ganges) that flows through India and parts of Bangladesh, running a course of approximately 1,600 miles.
  • Boston Chinese Drum and Dulcimer Ensemble: Katie Chong and Liane Wong
    Talented Katie Chong and Liane Wong treat us to their art and skill of playing the Dulcimer. Both Katie and Liane have been studying the dulcimer under renowned Professor Zhentian Zhang since an early age
  • Reception with Asian Fusion Cuisine
    A mouthwatering mix of traditional and Asian-fusion cuisine not to be missed!
