Emily Rooney, Host and Executive Editor
Since Greater Boston's debut in January 1997, host and executive editor Emily Rooney has brought her journalistic credentials and deep knowledge of Boston to the program. She was director of political coverage and special events at Fox Network in New York from 1994 to 1997. Prior to that, she was executive producer of ABC World News' Tonight with Peter Jennings. Before that, she worked at WCVB-TV in Boston for 15 years, from 1979 to 1993, where she served as news director for three years and as assistant news director before that. Since being with Greater Boston, Emily has picked up a number of awards, including the prestigious National Press Club's Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism, a series of New England Emmy Awards, and Associated Press recognition for Best News/Talk Show for Beat the Press and Greater Boston.
Linda Polach, Executive Producer
Polach is a veteran television news producer, becoming Greater Boston's executive producer after nearly 30 years at WCVB-TV. In addition to serving as planning editor and producer for WCVB anchor Natalie Jacobson, Polach also served as WCVB's director of special projects, supervising the station's Consumer Unit and overseeing production of all special events coverage, including the Boston Marathon and the New Hampshire presidential primaries. She has won numerous awards, including multiple Associated Press Awards and a New England Emmy Award for WCVB's coverage of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.
Jared Bowen, Reporter
Jared Bowen joined the staff of Greater Boston in 1998 as a researcher and moved up through the ranks to associate producer and then field producer. He began appearing as an occasional contributor on Greater Boston in 2002 and was named a permanent on-air reporter in 2005. Jared covers everything from breaking news to politics to arts and culture in his Center Stage reports. In his tenure with Greater Boston, Jared has produced four news documentaries for the program, including Veil of Secrecy, an examination of the Catholic church’s sexual abuse scandal; The Outlaw and the Lawman, which recounted the James “Whitey” Bulger saga; a look at the aftermath of 9/11; and The Opinion Makers, a behind-the-scenes review of the Supreme Judicial Court. He was also Greater Boston’s primary producer for the Eye on Education series for its first three seasons.
Jared is the recipient of two New England Emmy awards. Prior to joining Greater Boston, he was awarded a fellowship with the International Radio & Television Society, which placed him at Dateline NBC in New York. Jared graduated from Emerson College with a degree in broadcast journalism, where he also won several Associated Press awards for his reporting.
