Writing: The New Therapy?
For as long as anyone who has studied the craft of writing can remember, the cardinal rule of workshop has been: Writing is not therapy. “If you wanted to spend several hours a week baring your soul to a stranger who was obligated to listen and react, you went to (a shrink). But today, you (just) join a writing workshop.” At least that’s according to our beloved misanthrope Steve Almond. He joins us to discuss to evolving – or at least newly acknowledged – motivations of would-be writers.
