When Doctors Mislead Patients
A new study suggests that at least 1 in 10 doctors have knowingly lied to a patient. It also found that more than half of doctors put a rosier gloss on a prognosis than warranted and that 1 in 5 failed to disclose a medical error out of fear of being sued. Should we be surprised? Is it acceptable to shade the truth in some circumstances? Why do some doctors mislead their patients?
