One Week After Surgery, ‘Altruistic’ Kidney Donor Checks-In
We check in with the healthy 21-year-old who last week donated his kidney an anonymous person in need. Prior to the procedure – which takes about a month to recover from - Alexander Berger argued in an op/ed in the New York Times that organdonation “is a relatively easy way to help someone.” He also argues in favor of lifting a federal ban on compensation for organ donors.
Alexander Berger, a research analyst for GiveWell, a nonprofit that researches charities to help donors decide where to give. Wrote an op/ed in last week’s NYT entitled, “Why Selling Kidneys Should be Legal.” He joins us from his California hotel room, where he is recovering from kidney extraction surgery.
