Father Of 70 Kids Raises Ethical Concerns About Sperm Donation
As a strapped law student Ben Seisler donated his sperm every now and again to make a little extra cash. It was an easy way to make money at $150.00 a pop. Years later - his curiosity led him to an online donor registry – where he make a stunning discovering. He is the biological father to more than 70 children. And those are just the ones he knows about – he’s even met several of them. He is the subject of a new Style Channel documentary about children finding their donor fathers – and was recently profiled in a Boston Globe story called, “Who’s Your Daddy?” The story of Ben Seisler raises some critical ethical issues like – does he have responsibility for the children? Should sperm banks limit the use from each donor? And should this remain anonymous or should everything be out in the open? Here to discuss all of this is Dr. Michael Grodin, a professor of health law, bioethics and human rights at Boston University School of Public Health and the medical ethicist at Boston Medical Center.
