Week In Review
Week in ReviewEconomic jitters and market volatility have economists warning about the increasing likelihood of global recession. Will President Barack Obama’s Martha’s Vineyard vacation be cut short? Rick Perry bursts onto the presidential campaign trail – drawing huge crowds and comparisons to his predecessor, President George W. Bush. But does the current Texas Governor have staying power? Meantime, as state lawmakers move closer to a redistricting plan that could see Massachusetts Congressmen Stephen Lynch and William Keating going head to head, Elizabeth Warren takes a big step toward challenging Senator Scott Brown.  And – it took a visit from the state police, but Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy finally removed the a controversial post that spawned the scandal better known as ”Brady baby gate.” Plus – thumbs up, thumbs down on the state paying for a convicted murderer to get a sex change operation and more. We’re joined by Boston Globe columnist Joanna Weiss; by Charles Baker, a former Republican candidate for governor and a former CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care; and by Tom Keane, a freelance columnist for the Boston Globe Magazine and a former Boston city councilor.

After a smoky electrical transformer fire knocked out power to about 21,000 homes and businesses, sections of the neighborhood are getting back online. But problems are expected to persist into tonight. We’ll have the latest.

Guests:
Garrett Quinn, WGBH contributor and author of the Less is More blog on Boston.com
Meg Mainzer-Cohen, president of the Back Bay Association
Marcia Gregg, a Back Bay resident who (along with her family) lost power (and still doesn’t have it)
David Jacobs, publisher and editor The Boston Courant, covers Back Bay, South End Beacon Hill and Fenway

The Baffler Is Back
The self-described “journal that blunts the cutting edge” is back in print after a two-year hiatus. The Baffler’s latest issue of scathing media, political and cultural criticism hits newsstands tomorrow. And no cow is sacred. (Not even the one that pays its bills).

Guests:
John Summers, editor of The Baffler
Thomas Frank, journalist and author of books like What’s The Matter With Kansas? and most recently, Pity The Billionaire. Founding editor of The Baffler
