Monday Political Periscope – Debt Debate, 2012 & More
When it comes to the deficit debate, there’s no rest for the weary. The White House and congressional leaders have struck a tentative accord to raise the country's debt limit, but the plan has yet to clear the full body. The bill needs to pass a 60 vote threshold in the Senate, and will need to garner 216 votes to pass the House. Leaders from both parties – including Vice President Joe Biden – are on Capital Hill this morning trying to sell the contentious plan to members. We’ll discuss the winners and losers, what it all means for the Tea Party, as well as the foreign policy implications. The Boston Globe’s national security and foreign policy columnist Juliette Kayyem and political analyst and talk show host Avi Nelson join us.
