Mayors Call For War Spending To Be Redirected To American Cities
This week, the U.S. Conference of Mayors did something they haven’t done in 40 years. They made a bold, clear, anti-war statement. In a resolution that passed overwhelmingly, the Conference called on Congress and President Obama to bring home U.S. troops from Afghanistan and Iraq, and redirect billions of “war dollars” to U.S. cities, many of which are struggling with severe budget shortfalls and the need to trim or eliminate city programs. We talk with one of the leading voices on this issue and a co-sponsor of the resolution, Worcester Mayor Joseph C. O’Brien.
