FDA Regs Aim To Clarify Extent Of Sun Protection And Crackdown On False Claims
The government hopes to clear up confusion about the protection offered by sunscreens. New rules issued by the FDA say sunscreens will have to filter out the most dangerous type of radiation to claim they protect against skin cancer and premature aging. Marketing claims like "waterproof" and "sweatproof" will be banned. Joining me now are Michael Hansen, a senior scientist at Consumer Union – which publishes Consumer Reports; and Dr. David Leffell, a professor of dermatology at Yale University Medical School.
