Week In Review
Week In Review June 3Communities in Western and Central Massachusetts begin the long road to recovery after a handful of tornadoes devastated the region earlier this week. In addition to scores of destroyed buildings and houses, state officials are blaming three deaths and hundreds of injuries on the storms. As if there was any doubt, Massachusetts’ former Governor Mitt Romney makes his bid for the White House official in New Hampshire. And not to be outdone – Sarah Palin nips at his heels with unexpected stops in Boston and the Granite State. Meantime, a vastly different outcome for another ‘08 contender. Following a two-year investigation into massive sums of campaign cash used to cover up an extramarital affair, John Edwards is indicted by a federal grand jury. Plus, thumbs up, thumbs down on the people places and issues in the news this week. We’re joined by Boston attorney Cheryl Cronin, WGBH contributor Kara Miller and The Boston Herald’s Dave Wedge.

ABOUT THE EMILY ROONEY SHOW

Wednesday, March 14, 2012       Listen 897

The Great Back Bay Blackout
After a smoky electrical transformer fire knocked out power to about 21,000 homes and businesses, sections of the neighborhood are getting back online. But problems are expected to persist into tonight. We’ll have the latest.

Guests:
Garrett Quinn, WGBH contributor and author of the Less is More blog on Boston.com
Meg Mainzer-Cohen, president of the Back Bay Association
Marcia Gregg, a Back Bay resident who (along with her family) lost power (and still doesn’t have it)
David Jacobs, publisher and editor The Boston Courant, covers Back Bay, South End Beacon Hill and Fenway

The Baffler Is Back
The self-described “journal that blunts the cutting edge” is back in print after a two-year hiatus. The Baffler’s latest issue of scathing media, political and cultural criticism hits newsstands tomorrow. And no cow is sacred. (Not even the one that pays its bills).

Guests:
John Summers, editor of The Baffler
Thomas Frank, journalist and author of books like What’s The Matter With Kansas? and most recently, Pity The Billionaire. Founding editor of The Baffler
