In April of 2009, President Barack Obama announced a comprehensive and ambitious vision for high-speed rail in America. But while $8 billion were invested in rail projects as part of the economic stimulus package, everyone acknowledges it will take much more than that to bring true high-speed rail service to even a portion of the US. And with a battle brewing over the budget in and spending cuts looming, will Obama’s vision for high-speed rail for America be permanently derailed?
