In Defense of Women
Federal judge Nancy Gertner is no stranger to controversy. During a two-decade career as an attorney, she defended a radical lesbian feminist and an abused woman accused of arranging her husband's murder. She took a lead role in establishing that the Massachusetts constitution protects a woman's right to choose and won numerous workplace discrimination suits for women. She has recently written about these cases and other moments from a storied and sometimes surprising career in a new book, In Defense of Women: Memoirs of an Unrepentant Advocate.
