The Psychology Of The Fan
We all have that friend. The one who, during an otherwise casual conversation about Star Wars, will make the point that the Storm Troopers on the “Moon of Endor” in Return of the Jedi are actually “Imperial Scout Troopers.” Or during a chat about the Red Sox, inexplicably has stats at his fingertips like Mike Greenwell’s batting average in 1991 or Dennis Eckersley's ERA in 1979. Yes, there is no doubt about it, some people are out and out fans. So what is it that turns the casual observer into a true fan? Why does it seem to happen so often things like sci-fi and sports? And what exactly does the fan get out of the “relationship?” Our social Studies guru Robin Abrahams joins us to discuss the psychology of the fan.
