Week In Review
Week in ReviewBlue Cross, Blue Shield blasts skyrocketing healthcare costs as its board brokers an $11 million golden parachute for its outgoing CEO.  Then, Pres. Barack Obama says Libyan Leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi “must leave,” Congress avoids a government shutdown, ROTC returns to Harvard and the Supreme Court rules that the First Amendment protects hateful protests at military funerals. And, as presumed presidential hopeful Mitt Romney works to distance himself from his work on healthcare reform, Gov. Deval Patrick gives him a backhanded compliment. Plus, ailing BSO Maestro James Levine exits stage left and is the media complicit in Charlie Sheen’s very public explosion? Thumbs up, thumbs down on pigskin Armageddon, and the end of the 30-yr mortgage? City Year co-founder Alan Khazei and Boston Globe columnists Joanna Weiss and Scot Lehigh join us to sift through this week’s top news headlines.

ABOUT THE EMILY ROONEY SHOW

Wednesday, March 14, 2012       Listen 897

The Great Back Bay Blackout
After a smoky electrical transformer fire knocked out power to about 21,000 homes and businesses, sections of the neighborhood are getting back online. But problems are expected to persist into tonight. We’ll have the latest.

Guests:
Garrett Quinn, WGBH contributor and author of the Less is More blog on Boston.com
Meg Mainzer-Cohen, president of the Back Bay Association
Marcia Gregg, a Back Bay resident who (along with her family) lost power (and still doesn’t have it)
David Jacobs, publisher and editor The Boston Courant, covers Back Bay, South End Beacon Hill and Fenway

The Baffler Is Back
The self-described “journal that blunts the cutting edge” is back in print after a two-year hiatus. The Baffler’s latest issue of scathing media, political and cultural criticism hits newsstands tomorrow. And no cow is sacred. (Not even the one that pays its bills).

Guests:
John Summers, editor of The Baffler
Thomas Frank, journalist and author of books like What’s The Matter With Kansas? and most recently, Pity The Billionaire. Founding editor of The Baffler
