The new book, The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, has ignited a raging debate over parenting. The author, Amy Chua, contends that Western parents worry too much about children’s self esteem and psyches. She also says she expects perfection from her two girls and has a list of things they’ve never been allowed to do including get any grade less than an “A,” attend a sleepover, be in a school play or watch TV or play computer games. Is she onto something here?
