Post Mortem – Death Investigation In America
Countless primetime television dramas portray forensic pathology as a glamorous realm filled with intrepid doctors who use whiz-bang technology to solve all manners of crime. But a new Frontline special -- a joint venture with ProPublica and NPR -- reveals that the actual world of death investigations is in crisis. Elected coroners oversee a system that is underfunded, unregulated, and rife with conflicts of interest. The result is that untolled murderers go free, and many families simply never learn how and why their loved ones died. Joining us from New York City is Lowell Bergman, the producer and correspondent of Post Mortem, which airs tonight at 9 pm on WGBH-2.
