Ballot Question #1
With the Governor’s race so close, it’s easy to forget that there will be a few questions on the ballot on November 2 as well. We’ve talked here on this show about Question 2—which deals with state’s affordable housing law. And Question 3—which seeks to reduce the state sales tax to 3%. But there is also—of course—Question 1. A Yes on 1 would eliminate the sales tax on alcohol and alcoholic beverages completely in the state of Massachusetts. Liquor retailers in the state say the 6.25 percent sales tax on alcohol—enacted last year—is hurting sales and will cost jobs. State legislators say the sales tax on alcohol sold in liquor stores will generate tens of millions of needed dollars. We discuss with Steven Rubin – owner of Huntington wine and Spirits in Boston.
