Summer Reads
BooksWe’re talking books, books, books. And then after that… more books! What’s summer without a great book to get you through those long, lazy days? Fiction and memoir, non-fiction and young adult — we’ve got you covered. We’ll hear from area authors and literary insiders who reveal what’s on their summer reading lists. And then we open up the phone lines and take your recommendations. And of course we’ll answer the question on everyone’s mind: Will somebody recommend Fifty Shades of Grey?

Here's the list of our guests' picks and your ideas.

Guests:
Elin Hilderbrand, author of Summerland, Barefoot and Nantucket Nights
Jocelyn Kelley, co-owner of book publicity firm Kelley and Hall
Steve Almond, author of God Bless America and regular Show & Tell contributor
Donna Eden Cohen, “Great Fenway Park Writers Series”
Katherine Flynn, literary agent at Kneerim & Williams
Casey Sherman, journalist and bestselling author of five books including The Finest Hours and Bad Blood

ABOUT THE EMILY ROONEY SHOW

Wednesday, March 14, 2012       Listen 897

The Great Back Bay Blackout
After a smoky electrical transformer fire knocked out power to about 21,000 homes and businesses, sections of the neighborhood are getting back online. But problems are expected to persist into tonight. We’ll have the latest.

Guests:
Garrett Quinn, WGBH contributor and author of the Less is More blog on Boston.com
Meg Mainzer-Cohen, president of the Back Bay Association
Marcia Gregg, a Back Bay resident who (along with her family) lost power (and still doesn’t have it)
David Jacobs, publisher and editor The Boston Courant, covers Back Bay, South End Beacon Hill and Fenway

The Baffler Is Back
The self-described “journal that blunts the cutting edge” is back in print after a two-year hiatus. The Baffler’s latest issue of scathing media, political and cultural criticism hits newsstands tomorrow. And no cow is sacred. (Not even the one that pays its bills).

Guests:
John Summers, editor of The Baffler
Thomas Frank, journalist and author of books like What’s The Matter With Kansas? and most recently, Pity The Billionaire. Founding editor of The Baffler
