I would definitely visit NYC more often if there was a high speed rail to get me there from BOS in an 1.5 hours, especially if it was affordable. As a young professional I find the 4.55 hour Bolt Bus ride each way for $40 RT to be a reasonable option on a long weekend, since I do not see the value in Acela Expresss 3.5 hr ride for $200 RT. I look forward to hearing more about the possibility of a fullfledged high speed rail system in the U.S., especially the Northeast, and following the issues and negotiations that will take place as a plan unfolds.
WAYH About High Speed Rail
In
April of 2009, President Barack Obama announced a comprehensive and ambitious vision for high-speed rail in America. But while $8 billion were invested in rail projects as part of the economic stimulus package, everyone acknowledges it will take much more than that to bring true high-speed rail service to even a portion of the US. And with a battle brewing over the budget in and spending cuts looming, will Obama’s vision for high-speed rail for America be permanently derailed? Here to tell us what they are hearing about high-speed rail and it’s future in the Northeast and across the country are Richard A. Dimino, the president and CEO of A Better Cityand Bob Yaro, president of The Regional Plan Association.
