Chuck Turner Sentencing
Federal prosecutors are expected to ask a judge to sentence former Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner to a minimum of nearly three years in prison on federal corruption changes. But attorneys for Turner say they plan to ask for probation at his sentencing set for this afternoon in Boston. Turner was convicted in October of taking a $1,000 bribe and then lying about it to FBI agents. Despite his conviction and ouster from the City Council, Turner still boasts a cadre of supporters like attorney Harvey Silverglate who say he was unfairly targeted and persecuted. Social critic and attorney Wendy Kaminer says while the response to Turner’s crime may have been disproportionate – he is still guilty of a crime. WGBH’s Adam Reilly who spent the morning in Turner’s former district also joins us with an update on what his former constituents are saying.
