The saga of Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan, the vaunted American ice skaters who were slated to compete against each other in the 1994 Olympics, made for great tabloid fodder. Especially after Tonya's weasely husband, Jeff Goololy, engineered a physical attack on Kerrigan. Our next guest, Elizabeth Searle, wrote a brilliant novella about the case. But her interest in the two skaters then took a most unexpected musical turn. The result is a strange and brilliant new production, Tonya & Nancy: the Rock Opera, which debuted last night at the Oberon Theater in Harvard Square.
