At this hour – the Senate is expected to do what the House did easily yesterday: pass a compromise bill to raise the debt ceiling and thereby narrowly avert a first-ever default. Critics like the New York Times’ Joe Nocera say Tea Party Republicans – with their “intransigent demands for deep spending cuts and an almost gleeful willingness to destroy America’s credit” – have through the this process – “waged jihad on the American people.” We’ll hear from one Freshman Republican who wavered until the last minute and wound up voting FOR the bill.
