Rep. Barney Frank’s Legacy
Barney FrankAfter 16 terms and more than 30 years in office, Rep. Barney Frank will not seek reelection. Frank, who has been called the “single most important liberal figure in Massachusetts in the past 40 years” other than Ted Kennedy, says he's retiring because his district has changed so much he'd have to spend too much time campaigning for reelection. In a press conference yesterday, when he was asked what sort of legacy he hoped to leave behind in Congress, Frank said, “people should leave their legacies to other people to describe.” Well, the congressman might not want to partake in the conversation - but we can. We turn now to someone uniquely qualified to assess not just Frank’s most memorable moments and his contributions to American political policy and discourse - but also to speak to the man behind the blustery lawmaker.
